Matej Kovar hails Manchester United duo after Lyon win

Matej Kovar hailed Dan Gore and Donny van de Beek for their performances on Wednesday against Lyon.

Manchester United made it two wins from as many games on pre-season before jetting off to the United States, with Erik ten Hag announcing a 31-man squad for the trip.

The game only had one goal – thanks to Donny van de Beek, who volleyed home a wonderful cross from Gore in the second half.

The Netherlands midfielder made just two league starts for United last season after he picking up a knee injury in January, which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Both players — Van de Beek and Gore — earned praise from Kovar, who kept a clean sheet between the posts in his second appearance this summer. The Czech goalkeeper impressed MUTV pundit Danny Simpson after another fine display, but he could go out on loan this summer.

“Dan has been brilliant the last few games,” Kovar told MUTV, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “He has been training really well.

“I think the manager can see that as well. It’s brilliant for the young lads that are coming through the academy and stepping into the first-team and putting in strong performances like that.

“It was a really nice goal from us,” he added. “We built from the back to the top and I think everyone will be pleased with that goal so we just need to carry on and keep playing.”

What next for Van de Beek?

That’s a big question that needs an answer soon.

Van de Beek is not going to get enough games to keep him happy next season and Ten Hag needs more funds for his transfer kitty.

Maybe a few strong performances in the US leads to interest in the transfer market.
