Ibrahim Mbaye has agreed personal terms with Liverpool, with the 18-year-old PSG winger reportedly turning his back on interest from Manchester United and Aston Villa.

The update comes according to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who posted on X that the two parties have settled on the financial terms of a five-year contract at Anfield.

“Liverpool have reached an agreement with Ibrahim Mbaye. The two parties have agreed on the financial terms of a five-year contract. Mbaye has made his choice and does not wish to pursue interest from Bayer Leverkusen. As exclusively revealed, Liverpool want to sign both Mbaye and Bradley Barcola.” – Fabrice Hawkins, RMC Sport

Crucially, personal terms are not the same as a done deal. Liverpool still need to agree a fee with PSG, who have already reinforced their front line this summer with Maghnes Akliouche, Ferran Torres and Mika Godts, giving them the flexibility to cash in on a squad player who barely featured in the Champions League knockout rounds last season.

Mbaye made 30 appearances across all competitions for PSG last term but was an unused substitute in every European knockout tie, and he was again left out of the matchday squad for the French Super Cup final against Lens alongside Barcola. That lack of game time appears to have made his mind up.

Where does this leave Man Utd?

United’s interest in Mbaye has been well documented, and the club’s pursuit of the young winger was already looking uphill before this latest development. Aston Villa were also credited with interest, but neither club appears close to derailing a move that Mbaye himself now seems set on.

The broader picture is that Liverpool are working two deals simultaneously. Mbaye is viewed as the more straightforward of the pair, while talks with PSG over Barcola remain stuck on a reported €170 million asking price.

It remains to be seen how quickly Liverpool and PSG can convert personal terms into an actual transfer fee, but with Mbaye’s preference now public, Manchester United’s interest looks to be fading fast.
