MUTV pundit blown away by size of Manchester United keeper Matej Kovar

Matej Kovar impressed in Manchester United’s opening two games of pre-season.

It looks like life after David de Gea will see the team transition with a ball-playing goalkeeper, and Kovar has shown that he is one to watch for the future with his ability to pass with either foot.

With De Gea showing his frailties in that regard last season, Andre Onana is set to be announced as United’s new No.1. There’s no reason why Kovar can’t improve by working with the Cameroonian.

Across United’s first two pre-season games, Kovar has averaged 94.15% pass accuracy, as per Statman Dave. That’s a signifiant improvement from last season when no United keeper averaged more than 80%.

Kovar, 23, has been part of United’s academy since February 2018, but he has yet to make his competitive debut and there’s speculation he could go back out on loan.

The Czech goalkeeper impressed MUTV pundit and former youth team graduate, Danny Simpson, who was quick to comment on his presence (via United In Focus): “Look at the size of him!

“It’s a great opportunity. As a young lad it’s one of the hardest positions to break through. A great chance for him to show the manager.”

Meanwhile, United are being linked with Japanese keeper Zion Suzuki as a potential back-up option for Onana. I’d trust Kovar, but it’s a better idea to send him on loan to ensure he gets first team football throughout the year.

Let us know if you think Kovar should be kept at United next season.
