As we approach the end of the 2025-26 campaign, transfer speculation for Premier League clubs inevitably begins to ramp up.
Although there is still plenty to play for, Manchester United fans are eagerly awaiting the first concrete links to potential incomings this summer.
It’s already been confirmed that Casemiro will leave the club upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June, with the Brazilian unlikely to be the only outgoing at Old Trafford.
The direction of travel is muddied by the uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation, and although Michael Carrick is the clear favourite with most UK and European bookmakers, the former midfielder may be overlooked in favour of Oliver Glasner, should the Crystal Palace manager become available over the next couple of months.
Glasner has been linked with the role, with the Austrian supposedly unhappy with the situation at Selhurst Park. He is around 6/1 to take over the reins at Old Trafford, although if you are searching for slightly better odds, you can use a comparison tool or take a look at the best betting apps, which will enable you to shop around and explore the wealth of manager specials markets, which also focus on Spurs, Crystal Palace and Real Madrid.
Manchester United have delved into Serie A at various points across the last four years, although their success rate when recruiting from the Italian top flight has been a bit of a mixed bag.
Amad Diallo arrived from Atalanta during the 2020-21 season, and Andre Onana was also recruited in the summer of 2023.
More recent recruits include Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, neither of whom fully acclimatised to the English top flight at any stage, although a combination of managerial upheaval and injuries hampered their progress.
Potential Summer Transfer Targets
Pio Esposito is a player who has already been linked to the club, although both Arsenal and Newcastle are also believed to be interested in the 20-year-old. Inter have moved quickly to quash rumours of his departure, with the Nerazzurri reportedly unwilling to part with their prized asset.
He can act as a focal point and is strong in the air, something that United have been lacking at times this season. He is effective with his back to goal, and is also able to drop deep if required.
Central midfield is an area which may be prioritised this summer, and Atalanta’s Ederson could potentially fit the bill. Only five Le Dea players have clocked up more minutes than the Brazilian, and although adding a few more goal contributions to his game would be preferable, he is a combative presence and is ideal for a team that deploys an aggressive press. He can help win the ball back in key areas and is rarely wasteful in possession.
Pierre Kalulu is a player who has reportedly been scouted by the club, although they may face a battle for his signature, with Liverpool also believed to be interested in the highly-rated 25-year-old. The former Lyon youth product can also cover the full-back positions, and his versatility may come in handy. He also has an unenviable fitness record, missing just a single game this season, through suspension.
Federico Dimarco is another potential recruit and could be a potential successor to Luke Shaw, who cannot be relied upon to remain fit, despite bouncing back from an injury sustained against Crystal Palace.
Only two players, including goalkeeper Yann Sommer, have played more minutes than the 28-year-old, and he has remarkable numbers with six goals and 14 assists to his name so far this season. It would take a sizable transfer fee to persuade Inter to part with a player who has a long association with the club and joined the youth setup at the age of seven. He is also a lifelong fan of the Nerazzurri.
Alessandro Bastoni is another potential recruit who could bolster the Red Devils’ backline, and Nicolo Barella has been touted as a potential midfield partner for Kobbie Mainoo. He is another player who has an excellent record this season, providing six assists for the league leaders. He is an elite operator who is the quintessential box-to-box midfielder and comes with bundles of international experience.
Inter will need to sell at least one of their key players this summer to make room for potential incomings, and although they will be reluctant to part with either Bastoni or Dimarco, their financial situation could work in United’s favour.
