Manchester United turn to €80m-rated French duo after failing in Min-jae pursuit

Manchester United have two alternatives lined up as they prepare for disappointment in their pursuit of Napoli’s Kim Min-jae.

Reports have confirmed that the South Korean is closing in on an agreement with Bayern Munich and assuming that talks continue to progress positively, he will join the reigning Bundesliga champions in the coming week.

Consequently, the Red Devils will have to turn their attention elsewhere. Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster his backline for the 2023/2024 campaign, particularly in the centre-back department.

According to Ben Jacobs in his exclusive column with CaughtOffside, United are tracking Axel Disasi, 25, of Monaco and Jean Clair-Tobido, 23, of Nice.

Both Frenchmen are valued at a combined €80 million, and if Harry Maguire completes his expected departure, the club will have already recuperated some of the funds needed for a new arrival.

Jacobs gives verdict on United targets

Jacobs said: “Manchester United never had a done deal with Kim [Min-jae] and could now turn their attention to Monaco’s Axel Disasi, who is open to the move. Monaco are asking for €50m, and if Manchester United proceed they’ll hope for a lower fee.

“The club have also scouted Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, who is likely to be available for around €30m. Nothing is advanced at this point.”

Aside from the backline, Ten Hag is adamant about acquiring a new first-choice goalkeeper and a striker.
