Manchester United will be on the market for a new starting goalkeeper this summer.
That’s according to Manchester Evening News, which confirms there are doubts over David de Gea’s future at the club and that numerous figures are wanting to “move on” from the Spaniard.
De Gea’s contract will expire in 11 days and whilst talks are ongoing regarding a fresh deal, neither party have put pen to paper as it stands, meaning he could no longer be a United player by the end of June.
This would mean his 12-year stay at Old Trafford comes to an end, and rather abruptly at that. For months it was believed that the 32-year-old would sign off on a new contract with reduced terms, which includes a pay cut on his £375,000-a-week wages, though he is reportedly unwilling to accept the proposal.
De Gea could complete big-money Saudi switch
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that De Gea is garnering interest in Saudi Arabia, so if wages are a significant factor in his decision, the Middle East could be his most suitable destination.
Meanwhile, United are actively scouring the market for a new No.1 between the sticks. Andre Onana, Diogo Costa, and Bart Verbruggen have all been mooted as options.
