Jurrien Timber names important factor that will decide his future amid United links

Jurrien Timber has been heavily linked with a move away from Ajax this summer. The Netherlands international insists a club’s pedigree to challenge for trophies will be an important factor behind his next decision.

The 21-year-old seems to have no problem admitting that he is on the lookout for a new club, despite legendary defender Jaap Stam urging him to stay Ajax until the time is right to move on.

Manchester United are among the Premier League clubs linked with Timber, after Erik ten Hag tried to bring him to Old Trafford last year.

Timber admits he is yet to decide on where he will be playing his football next season but has revealed the crucial factors that will decide his future.

Speaking to Ziggo Sport (via Voetbal Primeur) in the Netherlands, Timber said: “It’s the same situation for me as last season. When I say I’m leaving, it has to fit. Important is the style of play and playing minutes. Competing for prizes is also important. My favourite country? I dare not say.

“That’s why I’m doing the same as last season. The chance is there, it can happen, but I’m also comfortable here. I’m still young and here everything also suits me. I’m going to watch quietly.”

The fact of the matter is Timber has not been quiet about his intention to leave Ajax. Not by any means.

Timber is doing his utmost to put himself in the transfer window.

As it stands, it remains to be seen whether United will go back in for Timber this summer. We’re being linked with an array of defenders and Ten Hag still doesn’t know how much money he will have to spend in the transfer market.

It is well-publicised that United will revamp their strike force in the coming months. A defender would be a bonus once because better backup options are needed for our centre-backs.

Timber can also play at right-back and as a defensive midfielder, so his versatility could be a real plus for the Reds.

Only time will tell.
