New Ajax manager convinced Jurrien Timber will stay amid United links

Manchester United have been linked with moves for three Ajax players this summer.

There’s no way that United will get all three – Antony, Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez – but they should test the water with some bids for Ajax’s best players.

In my opinion, Timber is the most exciting player of the lot. The 20-year-old is incredibly versatile with capabilities to play across the defence and in midfield. He could be the long-term answer to a lot of our problems, however, he’s still learning the game.

With the World Cup coming up later this year, Timber is set to remain at Ajax in a bid to keep his place in the Netherlands squad.

New Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder, who has replaced Erik ten Hag in Amsterdam, says he expects Timber to stay at the Johan Cruyff Arena this summer.

“I have spoken with Jurrien and I am assuming he is staying at Ajax,” Schreuder told ESPN, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. “Timber is a smart guy and he knows what is best for himself.

“We don’t think he is done at Ajax yet.”
