Man United and PSG reignite interest in £70m Serie A midfielder

Manchester United have been linked with Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for several seasons.

However, despite a move so far failing to materialise, as this summer transfer window approaches, the Red Devils have once again been linked with the commanding Serbia international.

That’s according to a recent report from Il Tempo (via Goal), who claim the experienced midfielder is wanted by United, as well as French giants Paris-Saint Germain.

Milinkovic-Savic, 27, who has been with Lazio since 2015, has played an integral role in the side and continues to act as the spine of their team.

However, with Lazio looking to reinvest in their playing squad, Milinkovic-Savic, who is one of their most highly-valued assets, is expected to be moved on for at least £70m.

Not only this but the Serbian midfielder’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico runs out in 2024, therefore, failure to extend his deal will only see his value decrease from now on.

When it comes to which club may end up signing the highly-rated central midfielder, United appear to be in a good position and could use Nemanja Matic to steal an advantage.

Milinkovic-Savic has not been shy in his admiration for the United number 31 whom he shares Serbian nationality with.

Speaking to Lazio’s official website about the Red Devils’ midfielder back in 2016, the 27-year-old said: “I can play both on the left or right, it doesn’t matter a lot because when in the game I move a lot, either side. At first I’d like to play midfield a bit right or behind the striker.

“Matic, I like him a lot, as he’s a great man and a great player. For now we don’t play the same position but I like him a lot and he’s the number one.”

Since making a move from Belgian seven years ago, Milinkovic-Savic has gone on to feature in 286 matches for Lazio, in all competitions, directly contributing to 104 goals along the way.
