Manchester United are considering a move to finally sign Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Serbian midfielder, aged 27, has been linked with a move to United for years – ever since Jose Mourinho was manager – but now it sounds like Erik ten Hag is identifying more midfield targets.
According to the Telegraph, intermediaries believe a deal can be struck for Milinkovic-Savic even though Lazio do not want to sell. It is understood that they are aware of United’s interest.
That may suggest that United are beginning to accept that they won’t be successful in their attempts to sign Frenkie de Jong, with Chelsea reportedly lurking in the background.
It sounds like United are scraping at the barrel for midfield signings because none of these players are like De Jong or could be described as defensive midfielders, which is what we need this summer.
Ten Hag should know by now that he will struggle to get results while Fred and Scott McTominay partner one another in midfield.

Mks is a good midfielder by all standard but does not tick the box like FDJ we still need the dejong deal cuz macfred partnership is woeful
Of what I have seen of him over the past 3 or 4 seasons, he would be perfect for us. Tall, strong, reasonably quick, good on the ball, he would be a definite upgrade on McFred & a few others. Forget De Jong, he does not want to come, we must sign Savic, class act.
More smoke and nothing will come of it. MUFC media team stoking up rumours to quell the murmurs of us fans. In the end it will be a dreary season again maybe 8 or 9. The Glazers will declare a dividend job done for another year. Maybe they’ll sell in 2025 by which time we’ll be fighting relegation.
forget de jong and go for Savic when we still can. de jong deal cost us our first game of the new season. we need to act. Slavic is a big big upgrade on our macfred. Please and please do this deal.
