Cristiano Ronaldo would ‘love’ to return to Manchester United, according to one of his former teammates.

The Portugal international has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr. There is a chance he could remain in the Middle East due to a lack of interest in Europe.

Ronaldo will be mindful of the fact few European clubs were interested in him when he left United for a second time following a public spat with Erik ten Hag in 2022.

With Ronaldo’s future up in the air, it is worth keeping an eye on online sports betting markets because the 39-year-old is not planning to hang up his boots just yet as he continues to score bicycle kicks on the international stage.

As a result, some pundits believe Ronaldo still has something to offer on the biggest stage in the Premier League.

Ronaldo has a stronger connection with United’s new head coach than he had with Ten Hag, and rumours of a reunion are not too far away.

The Portuguese superstar is still recognised as a legend at Old Trafford, despite leaving the club under a grey cloud. During his first spell, he won the Champions League and his first-ever Ballon d’Or award.

Louis Saha has explained why Ronaldo would welcome an opportunity to return to United if asked to do so by a familiar face.

He told Betfred: “I do think Cristiano Ronaldo would love to return to the club in a role where he’s respected. He left the club on somewhat bad terms, so the club’s hierarchy may not want it to happen, but the players and the fans understood what he was trying to say. People can’t say that what he was saying was wrong.

“Cristiano does have a connection with Ruben Amorim, but I don’t believe he would sign him purely because he’s his friend. He wouldn’t sign him just to please him, he would only do it if he believes Cristiano can help. If there was an opportunity to come back, I’m sure Cristiano would love to return and help the club because he will love the challenge. If he has the chance, he will come.”

A lot of fans will never forgive Ronaldo for how he spoke out against the club in an exclusive tell-all interview with Piers Morgan while under contract.

Others can see beyond that and love Ronaldo for all he did at United as a player.
