Manchester United starlet Alejandro Garnacho has reversed his ill-advised decision to ‘like’ two social media posts criticising manager Erik ten Hag.
Garnacho’s social media activity caught the attention of United fans following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
The 19-year-old performed poorly in the first half and was rightly replaced by Amad Diallo after the break. Garnacho, as I wrote in my post-match assessment, looks like a young player being asked to play an irresponsible amount of consecutive matches.
However, Garnacho had to spoil it by behaving like a brat on social media. Some have suggested that it may have been a PR advisor using his account, but who on earth thinks it’s a good idea to associate with a so-called United fan channel that spreads hate and misinformation about the club?
The United Stand is toxic and it needs to be stamped out. One of the senior players ought to have a word with Garnacho about it because they’ve been given too much access in recent times and need to be pushed back. Especially when the likes of Mark Goldbridge feed on controversial engagements.
In the first post initially liked by Garnacho, YouTuber/attention seeker Goldbridge questioned Ten Hag’s decision to replace the Argentina international at the half-time interval.
Goldbridge posted: “Garnacho has been one of our best players this season. Poor first half but taking him off at half-time and holding him up as the problem is a joke. Many have done much worse week in week out and are still out there.”
The second post read: “Ten Hag subtly blaming Garnacho in the post-match press conference… not a good look throwing a 19-year-old under the bus who has actually delivered for you this season. But then again he’s clearly scared of upsetting the bigger earners.”
Garnacho has since reversed his decision, choosing to ‘unlike’ the posts.
Furthermore, Ten Hag made the right decision to substitute Garnacho as we’ve got an FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City next weekend.
The young forward has played a lot of games this season and the last person he should be aiming digs at is the manager who brought him into the team.
