Steve Bruce brands £325k-a-week United man ‘petulant’ for what he spotted in Newcastle loss

Manchester United legend Steve Bruce is the latest pundit to question Marcus Rashford’s output and attitude.

The 26-year-old returned to the starting 11 last night following a midweek Champions League suspension, as he looked to add to his two Premier League goals for the season.

With the shift he put in though, it’s impossible to see where Rashford could’ve come close to scoring, as he was nothing short of woeful. Not only did he offer no creativity or threat moving up the pitch, he made little to no attempt at aiding the defence while Newcastle United continued to tear through the Reds’ backline.

It’s unlikely that Rashford will be dropped for United’s forthcoming games as he retains the full backing of manager Erik ten Hag, who reiterated his faith in the forward following the full-time whistle.

Others don’t share the same optimism as the Dutchman though and will continue to demand significantly more from the player, especially after he was awarded for his efforts in the summer with a lucrative £325,00-a-week contract.

Bruce on Rashford

Speaking on Stadium Astro following the clash, Bruce said: “The first one you look at is why is Marcus Rashford looking, with how good he was and how well he played for England a few weeks ago, after ten minutes, is he not happy with playing on the right? Or what is wrong?

“We aren’t going to know about that and what’s happened behind the scenes if anything at all has happened. Obviously, when he comes off he shows that he’s petulant and he’s not happy. But he has to look at himself to start with. It’s not just him though.”

  1. The whole team doesn’t care, whines, and complains rather than just showing up and working. That’s the difference in United and other top teams in the league and its why the team dynamic changes throughout the season and from season to season. When the players are in a good mood, they play decently well. When something happens that they don’t like, the team atmosphere is abysmal and they whine and cry their way to 7-0 beatings by Liverpool and 6-3 losses to City.
