Erik ten Hag seemingly retains full faith in Marcus Rashford despite another woeful showing from the Manchester United forward.
The 26-year-old returned to the starting 11 to face Newcastle United on Saturday evening following a midweek suspension in the Champions League.
Across his 61-minute cameo, he not only produced absolutely zilch in attack but Rashford couldn’t even be bothered to get out of second gear when it came to tracking his man or contributing in defence.
Given that he was awarded a lucrative new contract over the summer, with his new wage believed to be in the region of £325,000 per week, you can’t blame supporters for demanding more from one of their highest-paid players. Heck, he’s even a product of Carrington and a boyhood Red, so you’d expect he’d be leaving nothing on the pitch for his own sake.
Ten Hag longs to see Rashford’s 22/23 form
Of course, Rashford is on the back of his most prolific season to date after overseeing a 30-goal campaign for the first time in his career. There are hopes of such form returning but as it stands, 21 games into the term, we’ve seen no glimpses to warrant much optimism.
Speaking after the full-time whistle on Tyneside last night, Ten Hag told the media (via Simon Stone): “He [Rashford] works hard. He will get back. He will recover and gets all our support.”
