UEFA insist Galatasaray vs Manchester United will go ahead despite awful conditions

The latest from UEFA is that Manchester United’s Champions League match against Galatasaray will go ahead despite heavy rain in Istanbul.

Heavy rain has been falling in the city since United arrived on Tuesday night and this led to concerns over the state of the pitch at Rams Park.

A statement from UEFA read (via Independent.ie): “We are closely monitoring the weather forecast and at this time the match will go ahead as scheduled.”

The game is due to kick off at 5.45 and Erik ten Hag has named his starting line-up to take on the Turkish giants.

With under an hour until the game starts, I think we can safely say now that the game will go ahead after doubts were raised this afternoon.

The conditions were awful earlier today when the U19s took on Galatasaray in Istanbul and the surface at Rams Park could be worse.

Unfortunately for United, we go into the game sat at the bottom of Group A, having lost three of our four games so far in the group stage. That’s why it’s a must win for the Reds or else we face elimination from the Champions League.

Galatasaray won the reverse fixture 3-2 at Old Trafford. Hopefully we get a better outcome tonight.
