John Murtough is confident he will be kept on by Sir Jim Ratcliffe during the transition process despite reports stating that he will follow chief executive Richard Arnold out the exit door.
Manchester United announced last week that Patrick Stewart will take the reins on as interim chief executive, with Ratcliffe edging closer to a deal that will see him acquire a 25% stake in the club.
As a result, Murtough’s position has come under the microscope with Ratcliffe reportedly looking for replacements in the sporting director field. Some of the names put forward include Paul Mitchell, Dougie Freedman and Andrea Berta.
However, Murtough seemingly doesn’t think his days are numbered at Old Trafford, which is what the Manchester Evening News reported on Monday morning.
The Telegraph claim Murtough expects to work alongside Ineos and Ratcliffe throughout the transition process. The report adds that Murtough could even stay for longer if his role changes in a way that suits all parties.
That sounds like there could be room to manoeuvre and Murtough may find a way to stay yet.
Ratcliffe’s deal is expected to go through once it receives Premier League approval.
