Manchester United issue plans to commemorate Sir Bobby Charlton

Manchester United are inviting fans to celebrate the life of Sir Bobby Charlton, who sadly passed away on Saturday morning.

Following days of discussions with the Charlton family, Manchester United have announced their plans to remember Sir Bobby’s legacy at this week’s two matches against FC Copenhagen and Man City.

United will honour and remember Charlton at Tuesday’s game in the Champions League against FC Copenhagen. There will be a special pre-match tribute, which will conclude with a minute’s silence before kick-off.

Fans are asked to arrive early to pay their respects, with turnstiles open from 6pm. The club will also lay a wreath on Sir Bobby’s seat within the Director’s Box.

United also confirmed that they are planning further tributes for the Manchester derby. There will be a minute’s applause as well as expressions of fan remembrance with flags and surfer banners in the stadium.

Tributes have continued to flood in since the weekend, with Erik ten Hag urging his players to take inspiration from club legends such as George Best, Denis Law and Charlton.

Charlton’s presence around the club will be a real loss as explained by Harry Maguire on Saturday when the centre-back dedicated United’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United to the World Cup winner.
