Our predicted Manchester United line-up to take on Bayern Munich in Wednesday’s Champions League group-stage opener.

The Red Devils will travel to the Allianz Arena as the underdogs, especially given their start to the campaign; Erik ten Hag has overseen two wins and three losses in the side’s opening five matches.

On the other hand, Bayern are unbeaten in the Bundesliga, however, they did sustain a 3-0 defeat against RB Leipzig in the DFL Supercup final in August, which would’ve given Harry Kane the chance to lift a trophy on his club debut.

Despite returning to team training this morning, Raphael Varane and Mason Mount were not deemed fit enough to make the 21-man travelling squad to Germany. Harry Maguire has also been ruled out through injury and Tom Heaton has returned from his calf problem to provide added goalkeeper depth.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was confirmed to be injured on Monday after he sustained a hamstring issue against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Predicted United line-up

Onana

Dalot, Lindelof, Martinez, Reguilon

Diogo Dalot will come straight in for Wan-Bissaka, meaning Sergio Reguilon will retain his place on the left flank in Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s absence.

Casemiro, McTominay

Five-time Champions League winner Casemiro will make his maiden outing for the Reds in the competition.

Fernandes (C), Eriksen, Rashford

Hojlund

The Old Trafford faithful have their hopes lying heavily on the 20-year-old, who looked very promising in his cameos after making his first two appearances. What better way is there to announce yourself to supporters than to score your debut goal in a blockbuster European tie against the German heavyweights?
