Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire receive England call-ups for September fixtures

Two Manchester United players have been called up to represent England in their forthcoming Euro qualifiers.

As expected, Marcus Rashford has kept his place in the team and will be hoping to get off the mark for his nation after a scintillating year and World Cup tournament.

He is yet to find the back of the net for United this term, but could on Sunday when they take on Arsenal – a side he’s grown accustomed to scoring against.

What may come as a surprise to some, though certainly not to most, is that Harry Maguire has received a call-up despite his significant lack of action at club level; he has not featured for the Reds since the campaign kicked off and has spent the first three games as an unused substitute.

Three Lions supporters are well aware that the 30-year-old is one of Southgate’s most trusted lieutenants, but he won’t be able to justify bringing Maguire to the Euros if his game-time situation remains the same. It’s simply unfair to other players who are fighting for a place and performing consistently.

Luke Shaw’s injury has ruled him out of action.

England fixtures

Fixture-wise, it’s just the two in September for England as they continue their Euro 2024 qualifying quest.

They take on Ukraine on Saturday, September 9 at the Wroclaw Stadium in Poland, with kick-off scheduled for 5pm BST, before returning to the United Kingdom but away from their home comforts – Southgate’s side face Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday, September 12. Kick-off is at 7.45pm and fellow Red Scott McTominay is expected to be in contention to play.
