Manchester United are reportedly interested in a deal for FC Porto’s Mehdi Taremi.

The 30-year-old finished last term as Primeira Liga’s top goalscorer with 22 goals to his name in the league. He added another nine in the remaining competitions and contributed 14 assists – a prolific season by any standards.

According to Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias, Erik ten Hag has had his sights on Teremi for a while and Porto could demand a fee in the region of €20 million to sanction the exit of their frontman.

United will reportedly have around £65m to spend on a forward, assuming Mason Mount’s arrival is successful following his medical on Monday. The amount could also increase if the club are able to oversee several departures over the coming weeks, for example, if Dean Henderson’s expected move to Nottingham Forest materialises.

Stretty News’ verdict

Given his numbers in 2022/2023, he’d be a quality addition to the squad. Age is obviously a factor as we do need a No.9 we can rely on for years to come, but his availability is ideal and he’s producing the goals that United simply can’t.

For comparison, Anthony Martial scored nine goals in total last season and Wout Weghorst scored twice in six months.

  3. Onana not a perfect keeper for united. There are many good keepers than him who can pass the ball and also make good saves
