Ajax value wantaway defender at €50m amid Manchester United links

Manchester United-linked Jurrien Timber recently made a significant claim regarding his future.

Dutch outlet De Telegraaf ran comments made by Jurrien Timber, who was among Erik ten Hag’s list of transfer targets last summer.

Timber, 21, has hinted that he could be on his way out of Amsterdam in the summer, saying: “A transfer is getting closer and closer, so to speak. There is a lot of concrete interest and I have made agreements with Ajax.

“Last year Ajax asked me to stay for at least one more season and to extend my contract. As a club boy I did that with love and after the season we will review the situation.

“At the Dutch national team, I often talk to boys who play football abroad. I want to take that step someday.”

United’s pursuit to sign Timber was unsuccessful and Ten Hag opted to sign Lisandro Martinez instead. In hindsight, you won’t hear anyone complain about that because the Argentine centre-back has been one of our best performers this season.

Furthermore, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently revealed to CaughtOffside that Ten Hag still admires the 21-year-old defender.

In the latest update from German journalist Florian Plettenberg, it is suggested that Ajax want to keep Timber this summer but they will accept around €50 million for his signature.

As a backup option at centre-back and someone who can play at right-back, as well as defensive midfield, Timber may not be the worst option this summer.

At least he has made it clear that he wants to leave Ajax this summer.
