West Ham make offer to sign Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard is set to leave Manchester United this summer after 22 years at the club, having joined the youth set-up at just eight years of age.

The 29-year-old has largely been marginalised this season and after resurrecting his career at West Ham last season, the London club could be preparing to make another move for the midfielder.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say that Lingard is set to become one of two Manchester United players to return to their former clubs, with Paul Pogba believed to be closing in on a move to Juventus.

Lingard has made just 16 appearances in the Premier League this season, with less than a handful of those being from the first whistle. Louie Scott, Lingard’s brother, vented his frustrations over the club’s failure to hand him a send-off in their final home game of the season earlier this month.

All of that has now culminated in his inevitable exit, with the Daily Mail claiming West Ham have made an offer to bring him back to the London Stadium.

As per the report, Lingard is expected to be courted by several clubs but West Ham are said to have made an early move to sign him.

SN’s verdict…
Lingard’s divorce with Manchester United is turning out to be quite ugly, with the opinion-splitting star left out of Ralf Rangnick’s final matchday squad against Crystal Palace.

There’s always a sad touch to an academy player departing the club after so many years but at 29, and with no assurances over playing time at United in sight, an exit is the right choice.

Erik ten Hag is set to walk through the doors at Carrington imminently, with an official unveiling expected as soon as Monday. Although the Dutchman will be preparing for talks with all of his players, it looks like Lingard has made his mind up.
