Manchester United make contact with Ousmane Dembele’s entourage ahead of deadline day

Manchester United have reportedly made contact in recent hours with the entourage of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

That is according to Foot Mercato, a French publication which has been covering Ousmane Dembele’s future amid links to Paris Saint-Germain. The report adds that the France international already has a verbal agreement with the Ligue 1 leaders.

Dembele is a talented winger many would have been keen on prior to his switch to Barcelona, but then injury struggles hit and knocked his confidence. Interested clubs could be handed a second opportunity to sign the 24-year-old with his contract still yet to be renewed by the La Liga club.

A few days ago, I would have laughed at the idea but following Anthony Martial’s loan move and Mason Greenwood’s arrest, it would make sense for United to sign the Frenchman.

Even if it was only until the end of the season.

Dembele needs to play games if he is to leave the Blagrana this month. He has struggled a lot with injuries, and I feel he needs a good run of games in a new environment to get himself feeling like he can be the player everyone knows he can be.

There are risk factors – as with every signing the club makes – such as injuries because Dembele has not been able to go a full season at Barcelona without spending a long spell in the treatment room.

I’m surprised Arsenal haven’t tried to sign him earlier in the transfer window but given the contract situations at United and our attacking options suddenly looking thin, we may see some move on deadline day.
