Joel Glazer to attend Manchester United Fans Advisory Board meeting in January

The inaugural Fans Advisory Board meeting will take place in January and co-chairman Joel Glazer will be in attendance.

Seven fan representatives have been appointed to offer their voice on the decision-making at the club, which has been commercially driven since the Glazers’ debt-ridden takeover in 2005.

You could question what actual input these members will have as a 7-piece group, with plans to meet just four times a year, but promises have been made by the Glazers about an improved dialogue with fans.

The level of communication from the Glazers has been non-existing since the American family rocked up at Old Trafford, where they are rarely seen these days.

The FAB members include Ian Stirling, Rick McGagh, Jonathan Deitch, Duncan Drasdo, Oli Winton, Deborah Henry.

Richard Arnold will co-chair the meeting alongside life-long United fan and experienced barrister Christopher Saad, who said (via ManUtd.com): “I’m delighted to have this opportunity to combine my professional skills with my lifelong passion for Manchester United as the first Co-Chair of the Fans’ Advisory Board.

“I firmly believe that we will establish a positive new model for fan engagement in football. Sometimes there will be agreement, sometimes we will challenge hard. We will not shy away from frank discussion.

“Our aim is to widen the areas of consensus and narrow differences and to help maintain a healthy and successful football club which is in tune with its supporters. I look forward to working with my fellow fan representatives and club leaders in achieving those aims.”

The Fan Advisory Board will meet four times throughout the year, and it has yet to be revealed whether Joel Glazer will attend the inaugural one in person. He is probably going to be sat on Zoom via Florida.

Some of the names will be familiar to our readers – such as Drasdo from Manchester United Supporters’ Trust, who already have a hand on the share scheme concept with significant talks ongoing.

It would be great if this meant the Glazers would listen to the fans, but who is naïve enough to think that will happen? They are here for no other reason than to make money.

‘Hello Joel, my first question is why don’t you sell up and get lost?’

Hmm. Not sure how that would go down.
