Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal set for January tug-o-war for Premier League midfielder

Manchester United had a great and hugely exciting summer transfer window, however, the one position they failed to recruit in was the defensive midfield role and that is an area the Red Devils desperately lack. Despite that though, according to recent reports, the club’s hierarchy is aware of their need to bring in a new defensive midfielder and will attempt to do just that once the January window opens.

That’s according to a recent report from Metro’s Brighton and Hove Albion correspondent Aden-Jay Wood, who has claimed that although the Seagulls did not receive any offers for midfield star Yves Bissouma this summer, they’re expecting that to change come the winter.

Since arriving on the south coast in 2018 following his move from Lille, Bissouma, 25, has gone on to emerge as one of the Premier League’s most effective midfielders.

Having featured in 99 matches, in all competitions, the Mali international continues to play a major role in manager Graham Potter’s plans.

However, with just two years left on his deal and the 25-year-old destined for big things, the winter window could very well see some of England’s biggest clubs test the Seagulls’ resolve.

It has not yet been reported how much Potter’s Brighton value the commanding midfielder at, however, for most clubs serious about signing him, securing his signature shouldn’t prove too difficult, especially with the opportunities on offer, such as the chance to play in the Champions League.
