Man United lead Premier League duo in race to sign highly-rated midfielder

According to recent reports, Manchester United are leading the race to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

That’s according to a recent report from Spanish outlet AS, who claims the midfielder is wanted by a host of top Premier League clubs.

After opting to depart Real Madrid’s illustrious youth academy in 2008, Niguez, 26, joined domestic rivals Atletico Madrid.

Since climbing his club’s youth ranks, Niguez has gone on to feature in 339 senior matches, in all competitions, directly contributing to 63 goals, along the way.

However, despite being with the Colchoneros for the past 13 years, last season saw the Spanish midfielder lose his place in Diego Simeone’s first-team plans.

In light of his own underwhelming campaign last time out, despite seeing his side lift their 11th La Liga title, Niguez is now being tipped to make a stunning summer move.

With just one week left in the summer transfer window, if Niguez is to make a move, it will need to be soon and there are understood to be three top teams all in the running for him.

AS claim that although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils are leading the charge to sign the 26-year-old, they’re joined by arch-rivals Liverpool and Champions League holders Chelsea.
