Manchester United legend hails potential signing of Raphael Varane

With a formal announcement of Jadon Sancho’s transfer expected shortly, focus has swiftly been turned to securing a deal to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane. The France international has just one year remaining on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and is reportedly ready to leave the club.

In the latest reports, it is claimed that Varane is ‘ready’ to accept Manchester United’s proposal after once again reiterating his desire to leave Real Madrid.

And the potential move has now been backed by Manchester United legend Andy Cole, who has praised the 28-year-old and insisted that his acquisition would be a ‘big positive’.

“If that happens, I think it’s going to be a big, big positive,” Cole is quoted as saying by The Mirror“He’s still very young for a centre-half and has played at the highest level for many many years now.

“He’s won numerous championships and Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, World Cup winner. So he obviously has the qualities to bring Manchester United forward, so if it happens I think it would be a fantastic signing.”

Varane is still on holiday after playing at this summer’s European Championship with France but is expected back at Real Madrid this week which could accelerate matters in United’s favour.

Although nothing seems to be imminent at the time of writing, it does feel like there is a sense of optimism from the United camp in regard to Varane.
