Manchester United looking to sign a keeper this summer; Oblak too expensive

I scratched my head when I heard Manchester United are looking to enter the goalkeeper market this summer.

Dean Henderson’s a talented young goalkeeper but we are none the wiser this season if he’s worthy of being Manchester United number one. That’s his main aim and I’m beginning to think we look better defensively with Henderson in goal than David de Gea.

It’s been discussed on the Stretford Paddock Podcast and I don’t see an urgent need to announce we will be in the goalkeeper market this summer.

The story comes from Sky Sports with a report detailing interest in AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Lille’s Mike Maignan. Atletico Madrid number one Jan Oblak has been tracked but ‘may prove too expensive’.

There’s uncertainty over the future of De Gea and out-of-contract Sergio Romero is almost certain to leave the club. I understand the need to dip back into the goalkeeper market (sorry Lee Grant), but it’s hardly urgent or even worth announcing.

I guess it gives us something to write about because you’ll see United linked to every goalkeeper in the world between now and next week.
