Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic has hailed former Manchester United centre-back Nemanja Vidic.
The Serbian defender, who has been relentlessly linked with a move to Old Trafford, idolises Vidic and admitted he still takes inspiration from watching old footage of legendary centre-back in action.
Along with Rio Ferdinand, Vidic was part of the best defence in Europe for over two seasons. United fans have not seen the likes of that duo ever since.
Milenkovic’s deal is set to expire in 18-months’ time which means there could be a race for his signature in the summer. We brought you an update on the player’s future recently stating that Italian trio Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli are frontrunners to sign the Fiorentina star.
Speaking to his club’s official in-house media, cited by Fiorentina.it, Milenkovic said: “When I was little, Serbian defender Vidic, who played for Manchester United, was my idol.
“He was a very strong defender. I still watch the videos of his highlights today.”
The question most of you are probably asking is whether Milenkovic is the missing piece to United’s defensive jigsaw. And, although I think signing a top centre-back would go a long way towards improving things at the back, we still need a defensive midfielder.
