Video: Dean Smith voices frustration at Manchester United penalty v Aston Villa

Dean Smith was not happy when asked about Manchester United’s match-winning penalty tonight at Old Trafford.

Aston Villa lost 2-1 thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes as Manchester United moved level on points with league leaders Liverpool.

Smith was furious at the decision to award United a penalty in the second-half.

Villa arrived at Old Trafford fifth in the Premier League after a run of five matches unbeaten.

They were level for just three minutes before Bruno Fernandes restored United’s lead from the penalty spot.

Douglas Luiz fouled Paul Pogba inside the box, with the video assistant referee in agreement with referee Michael Oliver’s call to give the spot kick.

Smith argues Pogba trips over his own leg.

“Michael Oliver should be sent over to the camera because that’s what the VAR is for,” Smith told Sky Sports after the match, as seen in the video below. “Pogba’s tripped himself up there.”
