Reported Man Utd target signs nine-year contract with huge new release clause

Inaki Williams has signed a huge nine-year contract with Athletic Bilbao, amid tentative links to Manchester United.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio had suggested the Reds would make a deadline day move for for the forward, as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku who joined Inter Milan.

Instead, Solskjaer’s side are now light in attacking options as no replacement came in for the Belgian international.

The 25-year-old has now committed his future to the La Liga side until 2028, all but ending speculation around his future.

Williams’ release clause has now increased to a huge £125m (BBC), putting almost all clubs out of reach of his signature.

Although United need a long-term goalscoring replacement for Lukaku, the Spaniard was never the answer and rumours of his move to Old Trafford seemed more like deadline day hype in all honesty.

Forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both made encouraging starts against Chelsea yesterday and hopefully the can continue to deliver this season.
