Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urges youngsters to prove him right v Derby

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his Manchester United youngster to impress him in their first pre-season fixture against Derby this afternoon. The Norwegian boss is without several first-team players, which has given a number of youth players the opportunity to show their qualities.

Solskjaer gave several youngsters a chance in the encounter with Derby and has now urged his players to prove him right as the club awaits the return of their senior players.

“I think they [youngsters] can impress me, I’m sure they’ll try to impress me,” Solskjaer told MUTV ahead of the game. “They’re here because they’re good players, now it’s about seeing who can handle with the more experienced ones and who fits in with the group.”

Teden Mengi, who featured for Derby last season in the Championship, is among the starters and will be keen to impress his former side with a return on loan still seemingly on the horizon.

Tahith Chong is also named in the starting eleven despite a loan move to Birmingham already agreed. The Dutch winger will join Lee Bowyer’s side after taking part in Manchester United’s pre-season.

Mason Greenwood, who was forced to pull out of the England squad earlier this summer due to injury, has taken part in training since the start of the month and leads the line for Solskjaer.
