Report: Man Utd ‘intend to pay’ £134m to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder

Reports in Spain today claim that Manchester United are prepared to pay the buy-out clause of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

Spanish publication AS , as translated by Sport Witness, claim that the Reds are not put off by Saul’s huge €150m (£134m) release clause.

AS earlier reported that Saul’s entourage had been contacted by United as they look to bolster their midfield options this summer.

The 24-year-old is regarded as one of the best midfielders in La Liga and would certainly be a statement signing if the Reds did activate his release clause to bring him to Old Trafford.

However, the report also claims that Saul is currently in the process of discussing a new contract with Atletico, so United’s name could just be being used as a way of improving the Spaniard’s terms in Madrid.

Despite this, Saul’s release clause would likely remain the same even if he does agree fresh terms so there is still the option for the Reds to try and prize the midfielder away from the Spanish giants.

Whether or not the reports are true and the club are in for Saul, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s still needs at least one midfield signing this summer following Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini’s recent departures.

The Reds have also been linked with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Sean Longstaff this summer but not transfer appears imminent for either of the midfielders.
