Manchester United linked Viktor Gyokeres stunned Man City in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

It only adds fuel to the fire that his current manager, Ruben Amorim, departs this weekend to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

The newspapers want to know whether Gyokeres will be following Amorim to United in 2025 and excitement will only build around the potential transfer if he continues his goalscoring spree domestically and in Europe.

Gyokeres netted a hat-trick in Sporting’s 4-1 win over City to put him on 27 goals in 21 games (club and country) this term. It’s a remarkable stat that sees him outscoring Erling Haaland, who has registered 17 goals in 19 matches, as per Sky Sports.

Since the start of last season, Gyokeres has 67 goals in 66 appearances for Sporting across all competitions. All this is even more impressive given the fact he was playing for Coventry City in the Championship four years ago.

It has been a remarkable rise to prominence for the Swede and only time will tell if he follows Amorim to United.

Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov has predicted that Gyokeres will follow in Amorim’s footsteps and move to United.

He said on Monday Night Football: “This guy, Viktor Gyokeres is scoring goals for fun right now, so I think there is a special connection with him and the coach.

“So maybe, we are probably going to see him in a United shirt at one point.

“From what he’s showing right now, I think yes, because our strikers at the moment are not producing – 18th in the league for scoring goals is embarrassing for the stature of a club like United.”

Erik ten Hag signed several players who starred under his watch at Ajax. Amorim could also do the same with his current crop at Sporting and Gyokeres would be a popular choice.
