Manchester United flop to be given clean slate under Ruben Amorim

Antony will have a clean slate at Manchester United under head coach Ruben Amorim, according to reports.

It has already been reported that United are open to loan offers for Antony in January because they know that a permanent transfer – for the money they would demand in return – is out of the question.

That is for no other reason than Antony’s underwhelming performances in a United shirt.

According to Football Insider, Antony will be one of several players fighting for their future as Amorim arrives on 11 November, but he is expected to be given chances to turn things around under the new team management.

Amorim was officially announced as United’s new head coach on Friday following a week of speculation. Erik ten Hag was dismissed on Monday and INEOS wasted no time getting their desired man, however, we must wait a bit longer for the Portuguese coach to begin work at Carrington.

Antony’s fire form has nothing to do with a lack of chances. The Brazilian was backed heavily by former manager Ten Hag, who brought him (regrettably) from Ajax in 2022 for a reported £85 million after their time together in Amsterdam.

It didn’t work out, and I don’t think it will – but Amorim is not giving up.

United will be without Antony when they take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, as the winger has been ruled out with a sprained ankle.

When a new manager/head coach comes through the door, they’re likely to give everyone a clean slate. It won’t matter what happened under previous managers because Amorim will be his own man.

It’s the best policy to have because players in different roles and systems can surprise you. Some players could kick on while others go backwards.

Antony is fighting for his United future, having made just five appearances – totalling 155 minutes – this season. He has one goal to his name in the Carabao Cup after the Reds thumped Barnsley.

The Brazil international is under contract at United until June 2027 and he has a lot to do to rebuild his market value.

Perhaps Amorim can do something about Antony’s low market value. The only way to increase is by is by improving on the pitch and contributing to more goals.
