Sancho’s free-agent situation and the clubs previously linked with him

United signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in a blockbuster £73 million deal, but five years on the club released him with the move having proved a disaster for both parties. He spent the last two and a half years of his contract away from Old Trafford, farmed out on loan to Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa without ever establishing himself well enough to earn a new deal.

With no top club willing to take a chance on him this summer despite his free-agent availability, Sancho was reduced to training with 10th-tier Flixton FC just to stay fit. Premier League clubs monitoring his situation never turned that interest into a concrete offer.
