Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia is working hard to recover from a long-term injury.

The Netherlands international has not played a minute of competitive football since June last year, when he played against Croatia in a Nations League game.

Malacia last played for United in May 2023 before missing the entirety of last season.

Things are starting to look more positive for Malacia as he looks closer than ever to getting back on the pitch.

We can see that from a recent social media post showing him hitting a punching bag. The video was shared on Instagram by nasphysio.

Appearing ripped in the gym, a shirtless Malacia could be seen hitting pads and moving freely. He was also seen kicking and kneeing the bag.

After joining United from Feyenoord two years ago, the 25-year-old has played just 39 games across all competitions.

Erik ten Hag has not given a specific date for Tyrell Malacia’s return

In September, Ten Hag said (via ManUtd.com): “Of course, we want to motivate him to return, but it’s not so easy when you are so long away.

“Over a season now from an injury to return, but he’s working very hard, he’s progressing really well in this moment.

“He’s making big steps, so we think, at short notice, we can expect him in the team training, and he is a talent, it’s natural. I expect also, soon, he can return into games then.”

With Luke Shaw out injured too, Diogo Dalot has filled the void at left-back but Noussair Mazraoui’s setback means Ten Hag has a shortage of available full-backs.

Dalot is likely to return to his preferred right-back role, while we could see Victor Lindelof on the left.

Academy star Harry Amass will be hoping to get an opportunity to shine.
