‘Told to leave’: Manchester United star has been informed that he is ‘free to find new club’ this summer

Manchester United will opt against renewing Brandon Williams’ contract at the club when it expires this June.

Instead, the 23-year-old will join senior teammates Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Jonny Evans in departing Old Trafford for good.

Williams has spent the 2023/2024 campaign on loan with newly-promoted Ipswich Town, where he looked to add to his first-team experience under a familiar face in the form of ex-United coach Kieran McKenna.

McKenna has received endless plaudits over the past week for the unprecedented and stellar job he’s done across his two years at Portman Road. After Ipswich’s second-placed finish was cemented last Saturday, he became the first manager to guide a team to back-to-back promotions from the English third tier to the first in his first two full seasons in the dugout.

An unsuccessful loan spell for Williams

Unfortunately for Williams, he hasn’t been around enough to benefit from McKenna’s heroics. He featured in each of the side’s opening 10 Championship fixtures – five times as a starter – but was then omitted from the squad for three straight matches before playing sporadically from November 2023 through to the end of December.

The Carrington graduate has not made a single appearance for Ipswich this calendar year after picking up an unspecified injury, and his off-the-pitch antics have seen him make the headlines for all the wrong reasons; after racking up an outrageous 30 points on his license, Williams is now banned from driving.

Nevertheless, he’ll be off United’s books permanently this summer. Football Insider reports that he has been ‘told to leave’ and is ‘free to find a new club’.
