Michael Owen reveals how United star left Jurgen Klopp ‘absolutely fuming’ and ‘screaming’ at his players

Sunday’s result at Old Trafford ensures that Jurgen Klopp goes winless against Manchester United in all three meetings across his final season.

While both sides were ultimately made to settle for a point apiece last night, the Red Devils will take some solace in knowing that Liverpool’s title hopes have been significantly dented by the draw.

United were also the ones to eliminate any prospect of a quadruple on Klopp’s farewell tour, thanks to March’s 4-3 thriller at Old Trafford knocking the Merseyside outfit out of the competition and booking a place in the semi-finals in the process.

The Premier League meeting featured two moments of magic from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo. The former was able to capitalise on a horror mistake from Jarrell Quansah as he pounced on a loose ball and fired home from around 45 yards out to level the scoring.

Mainoo, who is continuing to oversee one of the most scintillating breakout campaigns for an 18-year-old, created something out of almost nothing when he linked up with Aaron Wan-Bissaka to receive the ball in the area before dispatching an outrageous wonder-strike that curled all the way past Caoimhin Kelleher. Truly, an unstoppable finish.

To make it even more remarkable, the teenager didn’t even need to look at the net before turning and finishing. Talk about clinical!

Klopp left infuriated over Mainoo’s heroics

Michael Owen had his say on Mainoo’s contribution post-match when analysing the evening’s affairs on Premier League productions. He told the panel: “As soon as it left his foot as well, we were right behind it, the camera angle was great, he finds a lovely little pocket, he starts the move and finishes it as well.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka making a move on his overlap, but that touch on his back foot to open himself up to curl it – he did play quite high today.

“Look at Jurgen Klopp – he knows it. He is screaming at his men: “Someone has to go and pick him up”. After the goal goes in, Jurgen Klopp is absolutely fuming that he was allowed to turn and have that space. Brilliant!”
