Jamie Carragher reveals which United ‘superstar’ he’d want to see at Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has revealed which Manchester United player he’d like to see at Liverpool ahead of the clubs’ clash this Sunday.

The two fierce rivals lock horns for the second time in three weeks after last month’s triumphant FA Cup tie, which saw the seven-goal thriller culminate with the Red Devils reigning victorious in extra-time.

A standout performer in that game, as well as in pretty much every other match he’s featured in, was Kobbie Mainoo.

He was deployed from the offset in the vital quarter-final contest, partnering Scott McTominay in the middle of the park while tasked with stopping Liverpool’s ever-prolific attackers.

It’s believed that Mainoo’s showing throughout his 80 minutes on the pitch was enough to convince Gareth Southgate to award him his maiden England call-up. Following the win, the teenager was promoted from the Under-21s to the senior squad for the first international break of the calendar year and went on to earn his two caps for his nation – including one start – in what came as yet another significant milestone in his career.

His abilities even have rival fans raving, hence why Carragher couldn’t help but pick the Carrington graduate out of United’s entire squad.

“I think I’d probably take the young kid Mainoo,” he told The Overlap Fan Debate. “His age, number one, I think he looks like a superstar, and he could go on to be a real superstar.

“I’m trying to think who else in the United team is better playing in their position. Maybe [Marcus] Rashford because Liverpool in the summer, obviously under a new manager, but would that be a position you look at? Wide left because I think [Luis] Diaz is good, [but] I don’t think he’s great. So that could be a position.

“But I think with Mainoo in central midfield. Yeah, I would go with him just for the age factor.”
