Real Madrid’s incoming teenage sensation scored the only goal in Brazil’s 1-0 win over England at Wembley on Friday night.
Like Kobbie Mainoo, Endrick made his senior international debut last night and grabbed the headlines following his 80th-minute winner.
After the match, Endrick spoke emotionally as he explained to Brazil’s press what the moment meant to him and gave a classy tribute to Manchester United and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton, who passed away in October last year.
“A guy who is an idol here is also Bobby Charlton, playing in the stadium that Bobby played, scoring on the day Ronaldo debuted. These are very important memories for me,” Endrick said, as quoted by The Metro.
“I was just thinking about that (the goal), I couldn’t think about the game anymore, it even hurt me a little. It’s a unique memory.
“My family is here, my girlfriend, my managers. I’m not much of a crier, I’m holding back, but it’s something unique and I’m very happy.”
The 17-year-old currently plays for Palmeiras in his homeland but will be making the eagerly awaited move to Real Madrid in the summer. Under FIFA regulations, Endrick cannot leave Brazil and play abroad until his 18th birthday.
FIFA maintain that this rule is required so that minors have a stable environment to train and complete education and to avoid abuse. Before this ruling was introduced, many feared that if players did not do well after being transferred to a new county, they could simply be abandoned and left alone without assistance.
Endrick has been targeted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs since he was 15-year-old.
At 16, he made his senior debut for Palmeiras and by the end of the year, he had won a Brazilian championship medal.
