Manchester United deal blow to Getafe after transfer talks over Mason Greenwood

It is unlikely that Getafe will be able to afford to sign Mason Greenwood on a permanent deal at the end of the season due to the costs involved. The Spanish side are trying to get the forward back on loan next season, but Manchester United are not interested in such a deal.

Greenwood, 22, is in the process of rebuilding his career in Spain and his preference could be to stay in La Liga beyond this season.

A decision was made by United to send Greenwood on loan to Getafe before the summer transfer window closed. The club had conducted an internal investigation into the player after charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour against the striker were dropped in February last year.

Greenwood has managed to score eight goals and registered five assists since then.

United met with representatives from Getafe recently to discuss the possibility of doing further business together.

According to The Sun, United are only focused on selling Greenwood – if they decide to let him go – and they’re aware of other clubs interested in his signature.

New co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe promised to make a fresh decision on Greenwood’s future in the coming months. Speaking to reporters last month, the British billionaire said: “It’s quite clear we have to make a decision.

“There is no decision that’s been made.”

Greenwood still has a year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and there is a strong possibility that Getafe would be priced out of a move if he is sold.
