Mason Greenwood has not played for Manchester United since January 2022. It doesn’t look like he has a future at Old Trafford, Barcelona don’t want him but there is a chance he could end up at Getafe on a permanent basis.
After meeting with Barcelona sporting director Deco, Marca believe Manchester United have travelled to the south of the city of Getafe to with operation Greenwood high on the agenda.
United are believed to be asking for a fee in the region of €50 million for Greenwood’s signature, but that doesn’t like a deal that Getafe will be able to afford – unless the deal was structure in a particular way.
The striker was sent on loan to Getafe at the end of the summer transfer after a decision was made at United that the young attacker would continue his career elsewhere.
While it was suggested by some outlets that United football director John Murtough and chief negotiator Matt Hargreaves met with Deco to discuss the future of Greenwood, those claims were shot down today by Fabrizio Romano saying Barcelona do not plan to open a pursuit to sign the player this summer.
Romano added that United remain open which is why it makes sense that they are having meetings in Spain.
With United clearly trying to sell Greenwood in the upcoming transfer window, it would naive to think the player wasn’t part of Monday’s conversations with Barcelona.
Other Spanish clubs like Atletico Madrid have also been linked with a move for Greenwood, although nothing concrete has been confirmed just yet.
Getafe are the only club currently in a position where they’ve publicly stated their intentions to sign Greenwood on a permanent basis at the end of his loan deal.
