Onana 8, Rashford 6: Player ratings from Manchester City 2-1 Manchester United

Manchester United have lost two straight games in the Premier League and are now 11 points behind Aston Villa in fourth place, meaning a top-four finish is almost certainly out of reach.

Marcus Rashford gave United an early lead in the derby with a sensational first-time strike and Erik ten Hag’s men took that lead into the break.

10 minutes after the interval, the hosts equalised and from there, they were piling on the pressure before finding a late winner through Phil Foden.

United’s collapse was confirmed minutes later when Erling Haaland scored the third goal after Sofyan Amrabat’s sloppy giveaway.

Man United Player Ratings

Andre Onana – 8
One of United’s best players on the day – saved his side on several occasions and was crucial in the opening goal. Threatened with his long passes throughout.

Diogo Dalot – 7
A good performance for most of the game but like the rest of the team, dropped off in the final 30 minutes.

Raphael Varane – 8
A fine performance from the Frenchman. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to block City out on his own.

Jonny Evans – 6
Not in sync with his centre-back partner at all and didn’t have the individual moments that Varane had.

Victor Lindelof – 5
Awkward fit at left-back. Struggled greatly.

Casemiro – 6
There have been worse showings from the Brazilian this season.

Kobbie Mainoo – 7
Does not look out of place at all. Huge learning curve.

Scott McTominay – 6
Played in an advanced midfield role to sure up the middle third. It worked for most of the game but it came at a cost, with United’s attacking play being non-existent.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6
Not really involved in the game.

Bruno Fernandes – 6
United need to keep the ball more to get the best out of Bruno.

Marcus Rashford – 6
Good way to respond to the doubters with an early derby screamer but that was the height of his performance. Still alright.

  1. Man City 9 out of 10 – Man Utd 5 out of 10 at best – Man City head and shoulders above Man United – no real contest

  2. City are miles ahead of us – nuff said…but for what it’s worth, Erik’s game plan worked well until the equaliser. Lack of squad depth and the lengthening injury list were always going to make this a tough day at the Etihad – even then, we frustrated a much better side for nearly an hour. Disappointing, but not embarrassing.
