FC Copenhagen dismiss talk of January bids for wonderkid linked to Manchester United

Sweden wonderkid Roony Bardghji is in the spotlight ahead of FC Copenhagen’s Champions League last-16 tie against Man City.

Roony, 18, scored his only Champions League goal against Manchester United in November. A swarm of Premier League clubs were reported to be keeping tabs on the youngster along with Barcelona and Nice.

The winger played down speculation over a move in a recent interview by stressing that his main focus right now is playing for FC Copenhagen. At such a young age it would be bizarre to take his eye off his development as a footballer.

However, FC Copenhagen sporting director Pater Christiansen has reiterated that a move for Roony was never on the agenda in January.

Christiansen was asked by Danish magazine Tipsbladet if FC Copenhagen received any bids for Roony last month. He said: “No. It was quite important for us to stick together as a group, and if there was anything to come out, it should be extraordinarily significant in relation to transfers. I think we’ve managed to put a good stop to constantly discussing it because our expectations for what a transfer for some of those players should be are high. Perhaps it’s not in a January window that one can make such deals.

“He’s positioning himself very well for the summer.”

The youngster is gearing up to face City in the last 16 stage of the Champions League tonight. Hopefully he can find the back of the net as our Danish friends cause an upset in the European Cup.

Roony may be one to watch for the future and I’m sure many will be keeping a close eye on him tonight.
