‘My new family’: Altay Bayindir gives heartwarming reaction after long-awaited United debut

Altay Bayindir was finally granted his long-awaited Manchester United debut over four months after he arrived at the club.

Andre Onana’s absence to partake in the Africa Cup of Nations forced Erik ten Hag’s hand into deploying the Turkish international for Sunday’s FA Cup tie versus Newport County.

United oversaw a 4-2 win and, at times, looked second best against the League Two side at Rodney Parade, however, they booked their spot in the fifth round of the competition and that’ll be all that matters for the manager.

Bayindir conceded two goals and made seven saves across the night but is now expected to drop back to the bench ahead of Onana’s impending return; Cameroon exited AFCON at the last-16 stage so he’ll be available for Thursday’s trip to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Bayindir’s post-match thoughts

Speaking post-match to beIN Sports, the summer signing gave a touching reaction to his maiden bow as a Red.

“I can’t describe this feeling. First Turkish player to play for a very big club like Manchester United. I always ask myself the question of how I can improve every day,” Bayindir expressed.

“I feel like this is my new family. I can see everybody supporting me. If they will support me I give my everything every game. Support is important for all players.”
