Manchester United issue statement on Marcus Rashford’s internal disciplinary outcome after clubbing incident

Manchester United have provided supporters with an update on Marcus Rashford’s internal disciplinary issue.

The forward was omitted from the Red Devils’ win over Newport County on Sunday with what the club claimed to be an illness. Rashford stayed at Carrington to train while his teammates made the trip to Wales, where they secured progression to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

It came after a widely-covered incident which saw the 26-year-old pictured in a nightclub in Belfast last Wednesday evening, with The Athletic later confirming that Rashford also went out the following night before reporting ill for Friday morning’s training session.

When pressed on the matter after yesterday’s win at Rodney Parade, Erik ten Hag repeatedly told reporters that the player’s absence was an internal matter and that he would deal with it.

Alas, Rashford was spotted arriving at the training complex this morning alongside his agent for what you’d expect were intense talks with his manager and senior officials, and the topic has now been put to bed.

In a newly-released statement by United, shared by Laurie Whitwell, they clarified: “Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed.”

He will be available for selection for Thursday’s trip to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.
