Manchester United fans are excited by the prospect of a bright future with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS having an key influence on football operations at the club.
When it was announced that Sir Jim Ratcliffe had agreed to purchase a 25% stake at the Premier League club, the initial confirmation suggested the petrochemicals firm would oversee football operations.
Most see this as Ratcliffe getting his foot in the door, but previously agreed arrangements are set to be more broadly defined.
According to The Athletic, United held an all-staff meeting on Wednesday and informed staff that Ratcliffe and INEOS’ remit will encompass more than solely football operations after appointing Omar Berrada as chief executive from Man City.
Today’s meeting was led by interim chief executive Patrick Stewart, who explained that Ratcliffe’s team will also liaise with the Glazer family on business decisions. It makes perfect sense because every business decision at United will impact the potential of football operations.
This means Ratcliffe and co will be given a broader licence to drive change.
Stewart also spoke to club staff that the club is committed to installing a “football first culture,” which is something we lost when the Glazers tookover 18 years ago.
Meanwhile, the Premier League is expected to ratify Ratcliffe’s deal with the Glazer family in February.
