Manchester United have received a possible transfer boost.
The Reds have been linked with a move for Ecuadorian starlet Oscar Zambrano, though reports had suggested that he was on the verge of joining Bournemouth.
A report earlier this month claimed United had been chasing the midfielder as Erik ten Hag looks to sign younger players after missing out on the likes of Moises Caicedo. Then, Bournemouth owner Bill Foley hinted he would instead move to the Cherries.
“We’re going to make an announcement in the next few days about a really exciting South American player who is coming over,” Foley revealed, as quoted by The Mirror. “He may be loaned out to one of our sister clubs because we are trying to create a multi-club model.
“We will progress him through that system and eventually you build up the playing time so he can come to Bournemouth. Then you have an experienced, 22-year-old who is ready to play Premier League football.”
However, LDU Quito president Isaac Alcarez has pushed back on claims the 19-year-old midfield ace is on the verge of signing for Bournemouth. Instead he opens the door to other clubs registering an interest.
“There is nothing formal or definitive,” Alcarez said, as per The Express. “We have to wait. It will be the best for the player and for the institution. The transfers have not been closed; we will see what will happen in the coming days.”
United are unlikely to make any permanent moves in January, but we’ll keep our eye on reports linking Zambrano to Old Trafford.
