Preview: Manchester United vs Tottenham – Time to bounce back in the league

The biggest game in the Premier League this weekend takes place at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Tottenham.

Erik ten Hag’s side go into the match after an inconsistent first half to the season, losing to Nottingham before beating Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup third round.

Kick-off is scheduled for 4.30pm and the match will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event.

The best we can hope for this season is a cup run and a top four finish. The latter will become a stretch unless United can turn their form around in the Premier League.

United will need to be at their best against Tottenham and show the same type of character their displayed against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, although it doesn’t need to be a comeback win this time around.

That is why this is the time to bounce back in the league with a number of winnable fixtures in February before travelling to Man City in March. It’s a chance to start our climb back up the table if we want to secure one of the Champions League spots.

Meanwhile, Tottenham were beaten last time out on their travels down at Brighton, so they will be coming with something to prove too.

Team News

Lisandro Martinez is reportedly eyeing a return for this one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Ten Hag kept him due to the seriousness of the injury he is coming back from.

At least Luke Shaw could return alongside Christian Eriksen, Harry Maguire, Antony and Anthony Martial.

The game might come too soon for all of those players and the same applies for Casemiro and Mason Mount, who have both been out for sustainable periods with injuries.

United will have first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana available for the final game before he jets off to the Ivory Coast for AFCON.

Spurs will be without Ben Davies after he suffered a hamstring injury during their Carabao Cup win over Burnley. They also might have Giovani Lo Celso back available which will be a boost for Ange Postecoglou.

Former Chelsea forward Timo Werner could make his debut following a January loan move from RB Leipzig.

Postecoglou will be without James Maddison, Cristian Romero and Alejo Veliz due to injuries.

We will have more updates on United’s team news when Ten Hag addresses the media on Friday afternoon.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-1 Tottenham
